Hello, my name is Kim Renée Coté. My daughter is Davina Houston and we are the folks behind Haseya Poodles. We would like to share a little bit about ourselves.
I live a life dedicated to the service of animals. From a teenager, I worked with animals. My first job, I was employed by a pet shop, and I specialized in the ownership and training of tropical birds, specifically the majestic macaws. Indeed, I had several parrots sharing my apartment as well as a black miniature poodle called Marky. During this time, I was riding stock horses on routine cattle pen checks, hence began my deep passion of horses. I furthered my education in horses by working for a few years with a Montanna Racehorse trainer.
I will be the first to admit, I was never a natural rider of horses. I was dedicated to learning and never gave up. In 1996, I shattered my heel in a riding accident. After about a year or so, I was back in the saddle, training carriage horses and cutting horses and competing at the National Level, winning many Championships. During those years, I lived in Alberta and bred / raised performance quarter horses.
My entire life, I was enamoured with Poodles and German Shepherds. Initially, I had miniature and toy poodles and I also had North American German Shepherds. In 2000, I imported Sieger bred German Shepherds from Germany and dabbled in Shutzhund Training, attending various trials in Germany and in North America.
In 2015, we opened our home to helping wolfdogs. A particular high content wolfdog pup we named Joey, required acute care in order to survive. Blind from malnutrition and a fractured leg, I shuttled Joey back and forth from Vancouver Island to Vancouver in order to have surgeries and after care provided by Veterinary Ophthalmologists and Orthopedic surgeons. I took several months off work to care for the pup. Joey survived and he has good vision and walks limp free.
In 2019 and 2020, we were fortunate to welcome two lovely standard poodles into our lives. One of those is Gabriel, imported from the World Famous Afterglow Kennels located in the UK.
Covid19 has been very destructive to citizens of the world. It is however, still in our plans to have Gabriel obtain his Championship in Conformation. We will continue to train our dogs in various sports and attend trials. Gabriel and Sophia are currently training in agility and have started their trials in Rally. Gabriel has obtained his Canadian Good Dog (CGN) Certification and Sophia will receive hers soon.
When we are not hanging out with the animals, Davina is caring for a new baby and I work as a Solution Focused Professional Coach, through Sacred Quest Wellness as well as with the School District, specializing in helping vulnerable high risk children succeed in life.
First "Hello"
Gabriel in a tracking lesson.
Training and riding in various equine disciplines.
When this little extreme high content wolfdog needed urgent help, we stepped up and forever changed his and our lives.
Blind and broken, we helped put this pup back together. We named him Joey. All it took was a lot of dedication, a whole bunch of love and a team of animal care professionals.
